How to Remove Your Data from BeenVerified (Step-by-Step Guide)

Info Remover Editorial·August 6, 2026· 9 min read

BeenVerified lists your name, home address, phone number, relatives, and criminal records, without your consent. Here is how to remove it.

BeenVerified is one of the largest people-search data brokers in the United States. It pulls your personal information from public records, court databases, and third-party data sources, then sells access to anyone willing to pay for a background check report.

You never agreed to this. And you have the right to request removal.

This guide walks you through every step of the BeenVerified opt-out process, including what to do if your data reappears after removal. If you would rather have it handled for you, see our BeenVerified remove my data service.

What BeenVerified publishes about you

Before starting the removal process, it helps to know what BeenVerified typically collects and displays:

  • Full name and age
  • Current and previous home addresses
  • Phone numbers (mobile and landline)
  • Email addresses
  • Names of relatives and associates
  • Criminal and arrest records
  • Court records and civil judgments
  • Employment history
  • Property records
  • Social media profiles

This information is aggregated automatically from public records, voter registrations, court databases, and commercial data sources. BeenVerified also powers several other people-search sites, which means your data may appear on affiliated platforms even after you opt out of the main site.

What you need before you start

  • A working email address you can access during the process
  • Your full name as it commonly appears
  • Your current state of residence
  • 5 to 10 minutes

Important: Use a secondary or disposable email address for the verification step. BeenVerified may add your email to their marketing database when you make contact. A temporary email address avoids this.

Step 1: Go to the BeenVerified opt-out page

Open your browser and go to beenverified.com/app/optout/search.

Alternatively, navigate to beenverified.com and scroll to the very bottom of the homepage. Under the Help section in the footer, click the link labeled Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.

Note: If the page does not load correctly, try disabling your browser ad blocker. Some extensions interfere with the opt-out form.

Step 2: Search for your record

On the opt-out page, enter your first name, last name, and state of residence into the search fields. Click Search.

BeenVerified will return a list of profiles matching your name. Look through the results and identify your profile by checking:

  • Your current or previous home address
  • Your approximate age
  • Names of relatives listed alongside the profile

Tip: If you see multiple records under your name, look for the one with the most accurate address history. You may need to submit separate opt-out requests for each record.

Once you find your profile, click Proceed to Opt Out.

Step 3: Submit the opt-out form

On the opt-out form page, enter your email address and complete the CAPTCHA security check. Then click Send Verification Email.

A confirmation message will appear on screen confirming that your request has been submitted and instructing you to check your inbox.

Note: BeenVerified states they do not add the email address you provide here to your profile or sell it separately. Using a disposable email is still recommended as a precaution.

Step 4: Verify your opt-out request by email

Check your inbox for an email from BeenVerified with the subject line Opt-Out Verification. The email arrives within a few minutes.

Open the email and click the Verify Opt-Out button inside.

Tip: If the email does not arrive within 5 minutes, check your spam or promotions folder. The verification link is time-sensitive, so act on it promptly.

After clicking the verification link, a confirmation page will load confirming that your opt-out request has been verified. Take a screenshot of this confirmation for your records.

Step 5: Confirm removal

BeenVerified will send a second email confirming that your opt-out request has been verified and that your profile will be removed.

Your profile is typically removed from BeenVerified's active database within 24 hours. It may take an additional few days for the profile to disappear from search results and Google.

Tip: Save both the opt-out confirmation email and your screenshot with the date visible. This is your proof of removal if the profile reappears later.

Step 6: Verify removal from Google

After 3 to 4 days, search your name on Google combined with "beenverified", for example: *John Smith beenverified*. Confirm that your profile no longer appears in the results.

If your BeenVerified profile still appears in Google results after 72 hours despite successful removal from the site, you can submit a Google deindexing request for the specific URL at Google's Remove Outdated Content tool.

Enter the exact URL of your former BeenVerified profile and submit the request. Google typically processes these within 1 to 3 weeks. For a broader view of how this works, see our guide on removing unwanted content from Google.

Note: Google deindexing removes the result from Google search only. It does not delete the page from BeenVerified's servers. The opt-out in Step 3 is what removes the data from their database.

Alternative method: email request

If the opt-out form does not work, or if you have multiple profiles that cannot be removed through the standard form, you can submit a removal request directly by email:

  • To: support@beenverified.com
  • Subject: Data Removal Request, Do Not Sell My Personal Information
  • Include in the body: your full name, date of birth, current address, and the direct URL of the BeenVerified record you want removed

Request written confirmation that the removal has been completed. Keep a copy of the email exchange as your paper trail.

California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia residents: You have additional legal rights under state privacy laws (CCPA and similar). You can reference these rights explicitly in your email request to strengthen the removal demand.

Expected timeline

  • Verification email arrives: within 5 minutes
  • Profile hidden from public searches: within 24 hours
  • Profile removed from Google search results: within 72 hours
  • Google deindexing request (if needed): 1 to 3 weeks
  • Data may reappear due to re-scraping: every 3 to 6 months

What to do if your data reappears

BeenVerified re-scrapes public data sources on an ongoing basis. If your information remains publicly available through voter records, court databases, or other public sources, BeenVerified may rebuild your profile within a few months after removal.

To reduce the likelihood of reappearing:

  • Submit a new opt-out request to BeenVerified every 3 to 6 months
  • Check affiliated people-search sites that BeenVerified powers, including PeopleLooker, NeighborReport, Ownerly, and Instant Checkmate, which may require separate opt-out requests
  • Submit a Google deindexing request for any new URLs that appear in search results
  • Consider limiting the amount of personal information visible in public records where possible

Our guide on removing yourself from people-search sites covers the wider broker landscape in more detail.

BeenVerified affiliated sites that need separate opt-outs

BeenVerified operates a network of affiliated people-search sites. Removing your data from BeenVerified.com does not automatically remove it from these platforms:

  • PeopleLooker (peoplelooker.com)
  • NeighborReport (neighborreport.com)
  • Ownerly (ownerly.com)
  • Instant Checkmate (instantcheckmate.com)

Each of these sites has its own opt-out process. If your data appears on any of them, submit separate removal requests. Related pages: Spokeo, TruthFinder, and Intelius.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a BeenVerified account to opt out?

No. The opt-out process does not require a paid or free BeenVerified account. You can complete the entire process without creating an account.

Can I remove multiple profiles?

The standard opt-out form only handles one profile at a time. If you have multiple records listed under your name, you will need to contact BeenVerified directly at support@beenverified.com and request removal of all records. Reference each profile URL in your email.

Does opting out remove my data from background check reports that have already been purchased?

No. If a third party has already purchased and downloaded a report containing your data, that copy is outside BeenVerified's control. Opting out prevents new reports from being generated going forward.

How long does BeenVerified keep my data after an opt-out request?

BeenVerified states that profiles are removed within 24 hours of a verified opt-out. However, as noted above, data can reappear if public sources are re-scraped.

What if BeenVerified does not respond to my email request?

If you are a California resident, you can file a formal CCPA deletion request referencing California Civil Code Section 1798.100. If BeenVerified does not respond within 45 days, you can file a complaint with the California Privacy Protection Agency. For EU-based individuals, a GDPR Article 17 right to erasure request can be submitted.
